The 300 Workout
Remember the movie “300″? If you do I bet the one of the first things that come to mind is the physical condition that all those actors were in. They all had incredible abdominal muscles, chest, legs, arms you name it and they had it. Some would write it off to CGI but CGI can only get directors and movie producers so far, these guys really did have to get that jacked for the movie and to do that they sought out the help of Mark Twight.
To give you a little background Mark Twight is a former world-class mountain climber and also a self-taught exercise guru who still believes in the old expression “no pain, no gain”. He owns a gym called “Gym Jones” which is an invitation-only, no-frills gym in Salt Lake City where there is no AC, no mirrors and no comfortable place to sit. This is where he kicked the butt of 300 spartan warriors into incredible physical shape with his 300 work.
So how did they do it?
The 300 workout is an intense set of 5 exercises that is performed in tandem until you have reached the goal of the 300 workout, yup you guessed it 300 reps. If 300 reps doesn’t sound that bad think of your current gym workout. Most people do 5-6 exercises, each exercise 3 sets, each set 8 reps. Okay I’ll do the math for you thats 6 x ( 3 x 8 ) = 144, not even half of what is required of the 300 workout. So if you think you got it and want to give the 300 workout a try read on!
What is the 300 workout
- 25 pull-ups
- 50 deadlifts at 135 pounds
- 50 push-ups
- 50 box jumps with a 24-inch box
- 50 “floor wipers” (a core and shoulders exercise at 135 pounds)
- 50 “clean and press” at 36 pounds (a weight-lifting exercise)
- 25 more pull-ups — for a total of 300 reps
To help you better understand those exercises we have the 300 workout video here. [Credit to Menshealth.com]. Check it out and give it a shot. In less you are in great shape most people cannot do the 300 workout their first try. I personally am going to start doing it and I am going to post my experience with it on here for you all to track. Good luck!
